Dawson Creek City Council is set to meet on April 13, 2026, to review and potentially adopt the 2026-2030 Financial Plan Bylaw, a key document that will outline how the city manages its spending over the next five years. The meeting will take place at 9:00 AM at City Hall, located at 10105 12A Street, and residents are invited to attend in person or watch via a livestream on the city’s Facebook page.
The proposed budget includes a 6.5 per cent tax increase. According to city officials, one per cent of this increase is specifically dedicated to asset management needs, which are intended to help close a $10-million infrastructure deficit. For the upcoming year, the city anticipates operating expenditures to exceed $48 million, while projected revenues are expected to be over $53 million.
In addition to the budget review, the council will discuss the future of local transportation and water infrastructure. The agenda features a presentation on transit service design options as the city evaluates the costs of its partnership with BC Transit, which has seen net costs projected at approximately $430,000 for 2026.
The council will also address the Water Supply System Project, currently in its initial research and planning phase. This project, which explores a $100 million pipeline to bring water from the Peace River to the community, follows a significant water crisis in 2025. During that time, record-low water levels in the Kiskatinaw River—the city’s only water source since 1942—forced the city to declare a state of local emergency as supplies dwindled.
