Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a yellow fog advisory for Tecumseh and the surrounding Windsor-Leamington-Essex County area for the morning of Friday, April 17, 2026. This advisory signals a risk of moderate impacts due to dense fog that is creating hazardous travel conditions across the region.
According to current data from the Windsor Airport station, visibility has dropped to 0.2 kilometres with humidity at 100 percent. The weather agency warns that visibility may reduce suddenly, which could pose a risk to commuters on the roads. The yellow alert level is used by the national weather service to highlight short-term, localized conditions that may lead to disruption.
This type of dense fog is common in the spring when warm, moist air moves over the region’s still-cool lake waters, a process known as advection fog, according to NAV CANADA. Because of the limited visibility, officials remind residents to exercise caution while driving. Statistics from Government of Canada safety resources indicate that fog is a major factor in road accidents across the country, often causing more severe incidents than other weather phenomena.
The fog is expected to dissipate later this morning as temperatures begin to rise. The weather forecast for the rest of the day in Tecumseh calls for mainly cloudy skies with a high temperature of 19°C.
