While the area is seeing mild temperatures reaching up to 9°C this weekend according to Environment Canada, the forecast changes significantly by Tuesday, April 21. Forecasters are calling for a 40% chance of wet flurries on Tuesday night as temperatures begin to slide.
By Wednesday, April 22, the daytime high is projected to reach only 1°C. Overnight lows throughout the middle of the week are expected to drop to -9°C. The community, which is located on the traditional territory of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations, often experiences sudden changes in weather during this time of year.
Because the region is known for a subarctic climate where killing frosts can occur during any month, the Yukon Agricultural Association notes that gardeners and those with outdoor plants should take precautions against the cold.
