Red Deer RCMP arrested a 51-year-old local man following a pursuit on April 2, 2026, which also resulted in a separate collision involving an impaired driver at the scene.
The Red Deer RCMP Crime Reduction Team began an investigation to locate a repeat offender on April 1. On the following day, officers tracked the suspect to a rural residence, where he fled in a vehicle.
During the ensuing pursuit, police used a tire-deflation device to stop the vehicle. The suspect, identified as James Holley of Red Deer, was taken into custody with the help of Police Dog Services. Holley faces several charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, drug possession, and driving without insurance. He was remanded into custody and appeared in the Alberta Court of Justice on April 17, 2026.
While officers were managing the scene, an unrelated incident occurred when a 46-year-old woman driving an SUV crashed into the back of a parked pickup truck. Police report that she failed to observe emergency lights and tow trucks working on the road. No injuries were reported from the collision. The driver was arrested and received a 90-day driving suspension under the Traffic Safety Act.
The Alberta RCMP Emergency Response Team also provided assistance during the operation. This incident follows recent provincial data showing that the Alberta RCMP Crime Reduction Strategy remains active in targeting repeat offenders, a program that involved 467 individual offenders accounting for 2,073 arrests across the province in 2025.
