Residents of Red Deer and Central Alberta can now support local community programs while preparing their gardens for the season through a new partnership between United Way Central Alberta and BigYellowBag. The Give and Grow campaign, which runs through May 31, 2026, offers customers a $5 discount on orders of garden soil or mulch when using the discount code UWCA5. For every purchase made with this code, BigYellowBag will donate $10 to the United Way.
This initiative arrives as the organization celebrates its 60th anniversary. Over the last six decades, the United Way has invested more than $52 million into communities across the region. Their efforts focus on three primary areas: providing for basic needs, supporting mental health, and creating brighter futures for local families. Last year alone, the organization invested $657,616 to support more than 29 programs, assisting over 34,000 individuals.
The campaign follows a successful 2025 fundraising year for the organization, which raised $1,611,585 and exceeded its initial goal. Despite this success, the need for local support remains high. The United Way recently reported receiving more than double the number of applications for multi-year program funding compared to its previous cycle, highlighting an increase in community demand for essential services.
BigYellowBag has provided soil and mulch delivery services in the area since 1994. In the Red Deer region, their operations are facilitated through Blue Grass Nursery, Sod & Garden Centre.
