A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive East and Leslie Street on December 18, 2025, at about 4:10 p.m. left a 65-year-old man from Vaughan dead and two other pedestrians injured during the afternoon rush hour.

According to a York Regional Police release, two vehicles collided at the intersection, and investigators learned that after the initial collision, three pedestrians were struck by one of the involved vehicles. The 65-year-old Vaughan man was pronounced deceased at the scene; two other pedestrians were taken to hospital, one with life‑threatening injuries and one with minor injuries. The drivers of the involved vehicles remained on scene and were assessed for minor injuries.

The York Regional Police Major Collision Investigations Unit is asking anyone who witnessed the sequence of events or captured dashcam footage to come forward through the public appeal portal. Investigators say the cause of the initial vehicle collision is still under review.

The crash closed the intersection and caused significant delays for commuters travelling north from Richmond Hill toward Newmarket. Leslie Street is frequently used as an alternate to Highway 404 for northbound traffic, and the closure added to heavy congestion during peak travel time.

Anyone with information or video from around 4:10 p.m. on December 18 is asked to contact York Regional Police or submit details online through the evidence submission portal.
