Dawson Creek City Council will gather at 9:00 AM on April 27, 2026, at City Hall to vote on the 2026 property tax rates. The meeting, which allows residents to attend in person or watch via the City of Dawson Creek Facebook page, will determine the tax rates for the upcoming year.
The proposed tax increase for 2026 is 5.45 per cent. This figure is lower than the 6.5 per cent increase initially suggested in the draft budget from December 2025. This adjustment was made possible due to a 22 per cent decrease in the annual requisition from the Peace River Regional District, largely because the regional loan for the South Peace Community Multiplex was fully repaid in 2025. That repayment also resulted in a $232,905 surplus being returned to the multiplex fund.
For the 2026 tax year, the total assessment value for property in the city is projected at nearly $2 billion, representing an increase of $70.6 million over 2025. The city continues to manage financial requirements for regional services, with a $1,086,269 requisition for the regional district and $1,631,747 for the Peace River Regional Hospital District.
If the city council passes the current tax rate bylaw at this meeting, it must return for final adoption on May 11, 2026, to meet the provincial deadline of May 14, 2026. Beyond the budget, the meeting agenda includes a review of a permit for a proposed tow yard on 116 Avenue and the official proclamation of the Annual Day of Mourning.
