Camrose homeowners will see their total property tax bills rise by an average of 6.3% this year following a decision by Camrose City Council to approve the 2026 property tax rates.
The city’s municipal portion of the tax bill grew by 4.1%. This increase was kept lower than the originally planned 4.65% due to strong residential growth and new development in the community, which has reached its highest level since 2012.
However, the total increase is being driven primarily by a rise in the provincial education tax, which is set by the Government of Alberta. City council does not have control over this portion of the bill. The province increased the education tax rate for residential and farmland properties to $2.84 per $1,000 of equalized assessment for the 2026-27 period. Across the province, this change raises the total education tax requisition from $3.1 billion to $3.6 billion, with the property tax now funding 33.4% of K-12 education operating costs.
In addition to these charges, the final bill includes a tax rate set by the Camrose and Area Lodge Authority, which the city also does not control. Non-residential properties in the city will see an average total increase of 5.4%.
Residents can expect their property tax notices to arrive by mail by May 15, 2026. Payments for the 2026 property taxes are due on June 30, 2026.
