The Canmore Eagles have captured their first league championship in franchise history and are preparing to represent Alberta at the national level. The team secured the title on April 25, 2026, by defeating the Whitecourt Wolverines 2-1 in Game 5, clinching the final series 4-1 to win the Inter Pipeline Cup.
Following the championship win, the community-owned, not-for-profit club is now setting its sights on the 2026 Centennial Cup. The national tournament is set to take place from May 7-17 in Summerside, PEI, at Credit Union Place. To help manage the costs associated with travelling to the national stage, the Canmore Eagles have organized community fundraisers, including 50/50 raffles.
The road to the championship was a successful one for the team, which finished the 2025-26 regular season atop the South Division. Under the leadership of General Manager and Head Coach Andrew Milne, the Eagles moved through the playoffs by defeating the defending champion Calgary Canucks in the opening round and sweeping the Drumheller Dragons to claim the division title.
Goaltender Alexander Scheiwiller played a crucial role in the final victory, stopping 38 of 39 shots. He was named the 2026 AJHL Playoff Most Valuable Player for his performance. Residents of the mountain town of 12,000 welcomed the team home during a celebration held at the Canmore Recreation Centre on April 26.
