The Capital Regional District is conducting its annual water main flushing across Salt Spring Island from May 4 to May 13, 2026, as part of a routine maintenance program to clean distribution pipes.
Work is taking place across six different service areas on the island, including Fulford, Highland, Cedars of Tuam, Cedar Lane, Fernwood, and Beddis. These systems serve a range of local connections, from the 321 homes on the Highland-Fernwood system to the 16 connections at Cedars of Tuam.
Residents in these areas may notice lower water pressure or temporary discoloration in their water while crews complete the work. The regional district notes that any such discoloration is temporary and does not present a health hazard, as staff are testing water samples throughout the process to ensure safety.
If water appears discolored, residents are advised to run their cold water taps until the water runs clear. This maintenance effort is similar to the program held in April 2024 and is separate from the current Stage 1 water conservation restrictions, which remain in effect for all district water services on the island through September 30, 2026.
For more information on the maintenance, residents can review the official flushing alert or visit the regional district’s information page.
