As the summer tourism season approaches, the Town of Canmore is seeking to fill key municipal roles while local employers face a tight labour market. The Job Resource Centre currently shows 211 open positions across the Bow Valley as of May 13, 2026, marking a 54 per cent increase in available jobs compared to last year.
Municipal government positions, including roles within the Planning and Development department such as safety codes officers, are among those currently available. These openings come as the region prepares for another busy summer, following a record 4.5 million visitors to Banff National Park in 2025.
Finding staff remains a challenge for many businesses and organizations in the area. According to local reports, the cost of housing is a significant barrier to recruitment, with average one-bedroom rentals sitting at $2,381 in Canmore and $2,079 in Banff. While some employers are attempting to bridge this gap, only about 23 per cent of job postings in Canmore currently offer staff housing, compared to 47 per cent in Banff.
With many employers setting early May deadlines for summer hiring, recruitment efforts are currently at a peak. To better understand these ongoing staffing needs, the Banff and Lake Louise Hospitality Association is launching a workforce labour study. Residents looking for work can contact the Job Resource Centre, which serves communities including Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, and Kananaskis, for information on current openings.
