The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals are set to face the Truro Bearcats in a quarterfinal matchup at the 2026 Centennial Cup in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, on May 15, 2026. The game, which takes place at 7:30 PM at the Island Petroleum Energy Centre, marks a critical elimination stage in the national tournament.
The 2026 Centennial Cup, presented by Tim Hortons, has been running at Credit Union Place since May 7 and concludes on May 17. The event, which features 10 teams competing for Canada’s National Junior A Hockey Championship, is estimated by the City of Summerside to provide an economic impact of over $5 million to the local community.
This quarterfinal clash carries additional history for the two teams from the Maritime Junior Hockey League. The sides finished their regular season tied with 72 points each, and they recently competed in a seven-game playoff series in April 2026 where the Bearcats narrowly advanced to the league final. In the national tournament round-robin, the host Capitals secured a 2-1-1 record, while the Bearcats finished with a 2-2-0 record.
Summerside has a long history with the national championship, having hosted the event in 1989, 1997, and 2013. The Western Capitals previously captured the national title on home ice in 1997 and reached the final round in 1989 and 2013. Elsewhere in the tournament, the Niverville Nighthawks have remained the only undefeated team with a 4-0-0 record, earning them an automatic bye into the semifinals.
