Residents of Sault Ste. Marie should prepare for a significant cooldown this week as rain moves through the area and temperatures drop toward freezing by Tuesday night.
According to Environment Canada, rain is expected to end this afternoon, bringing between 10 and 20 mm of precipitation to the region. While the federal agency reports no weather alerts for the area, locals should be aware of a sharp temperature change. After a daytime high of 14°C, temperatures are forecast to fall to 6°C this afternoon, continuing to drop to a chilly plus 1°C overnight.
While the official forecast does not include thunderstorms for the city, a larger weather system is impacting parts of southern Ontario today. The Weather Network reports that a powerful cold front is moving through the province, bringing a risk of severe storms primarily to areas south of Sault Ste. Marie near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.
The remainder of the week will see variable conditions. Wednesday will be overcast with a high of 6°C, followed by a stretch of sunnier, warmer weather. Residents can look forward to a high of 15°C on both Thursday and Friday. As the week progresses, temperatures will climb back toward seasonal norms, reaching a pleasant 20°C by next Monday.
For those planning their week, AccuWeather also advises that residents should expect noticeably cooler weather throughout the mid-week period.
