The City of Summerside has officially released its 2026 construction schedule, providing residents with a clear look at upcoming infrastructure projects planned throughout the community in Prince Edward Island. The document, now available as a download on the city’s Project Schedule page, replaces a previous placeholder message and outlines work that may impact daily commutes, property access, and local neighbourhoods.
This construction plan is part of the city’s 2026-27 budget, which includes $26.7 million in total capital investments. Of that amount, $9.2 million has been specifically set aside for technical services projects designed to improve essential city systems. These include $3.5 million for water system upgrades, $3.2 million for sewer improvements, and $1.02 million for storm sewer remediation. Additionally, $1.5 million is allocated to complete work on the East-West Corridor.
Beyond utility work, the city is dedicating funds to public amenities. The budget includes $850,000 for parks and recreation improvements, $427,000 for work on the waterfront boardwalk, and $367,500 for replacing sidewalks, which will feature new installations on Lefurgey Avenue. These projects follow the official opening of Cairns Boulevard this past February, a major route connecting Water Street East to Ryan Street in the north end.
Mayor Dan Kutcher has described the budget as a balanced and prudent plan that focuses on essential investments while maintaining no property tax increases. Residents and business owners are encouraged to review the newly published schedule to prepare for any potential disruptions during the construction season, which typically runs from spring through the fall.
