Residents of Dawson Creek can learn about local health services and the progress of the city’s new hospital at the upcoming South Peace Health Expo 2026. This free community event takes place on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Ovintiv Events Centre.
Hosted by the South Peace Primary Care Network, this is the second year the expo has been held to connect community members with local health providers and regional wellness resources. The team behind the new hospital will also be on-site to provide updates and answer questions about the facility.
Construction on the new hospital is currently moving faster than expected. According to Northern Health and Graham Design-Builders, the substantial completion date has been moved up by two months to September 29, 2026. The new building is expected to open to the public in early 2027.
The new facility will be more than 50 per cent larger than the current 1960-era hospital. Upgrades include an increase to 70 inpatient beds, all in single rooms with ensuite washrooms, and 15 treatment spaces in the emergency department. The project is also aiming for a high-efficiency certification known as LEED Gold. Once the new hospital is operational in 2027, the older existing building will be taken out of service and removed.
