The City of Sault Ste. Marie is actively seeking new staff to join its team, including a part-time position on the transit spare board as the city prepares for a major overhaul of its public transportation network.
Applications for the Part-Time Spare Board Transit Operator are open until June 3, 2026. The role offers a wage of $32.66 per hour and is covered under the collective agreement with Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1767. Interested candidates must hold a valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G driver’s licence in good standing.
This recruitment comes shortly before the launch of the Sault Loops, a completely redesigned transit network set to begin service on June 7, 2026. Sault Ste. Marie Transit Services currently operates a fleet of 27 buses, 2 minibuses, and 11 paratransit vehicles across nine routes. The service has been operated by the city since 1964 and has a history of public transit operations in the community dating back to 1888.
In addition to the transit role, the city is accepting applications for a temporary Community Safety and Well Being Coordinator until May 24, 2026, and a full-time mechanic position with no set closing date. Residents can find more information about these municipal openings through the City of Sault Ste. Marie human resources department. Meanwhile, applications for the city’s 2026 summer student employment program have officially closed.
For those looking for other local roles, the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce maintains an online list of additional employment opportunities within the community.
