The City of Dawson Creek is seeking public feedback on a proposed change to how senior city staff are paid for working extra hours. On May 11, 2026, the local city council voted to move forward with a new overtime policy that would adjust compensation for exempt and management employees.
Currently, these staff members receive overtime pay at a flat rate of 1.5 times their hourly wage. The proposed policy, detailed in Report No. 26-080, would introduce a tiered system. Under this new plan, eligible employees would be paid 1.5 times their hourly rate for the first two hours of overtime and double their hourly rate for any additional hours worked.
The proposal was brought forward by Deputy Corporate Officer Janice Anderson and received approval to proceed from Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Henderson and Corporate Officer Tab Young on May 6, 2026. This policy change specifically affects non-union management staff, rather than workers represented by CUPE Local 2403.
Residents who wish to review the details of the proposed policy or share their thoughts have until 4:30 PM on June 12, 2026, to provide input. Following this 30-day review period, the council will evaluate the comments before moving ahead with the formal replacement of the existing policy.
