The Flu Fighters, a six-doctor cover band made up of physicians from Prince County Hospital, will return to the Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre on November 7, 2026, for their second annual fundraiser show with all ticket proceeds going to the Prince County Hospital Foundation.
According to the Medical Society of Prince Edward Island, the Flu Fighters formed in June 2024 after doctors began meeting for casual jam sessions in Dr. Steve MacNeill’s Summerside shed. The group includes Drs. Steve MacNeill, John Morash, Jonathan Sharpe, April MacPhee, Tyler McDonell, and David Antle, all physicians who work at Prince County Hospital.
The band’s first public performance took place on November 7, 2025, at the same venue and raised about $10,000 for the Prince County Hospital Foundation. The Medical Society of Prince Edward Island reports the Flu Fighters have since raised more than $20,000 for the foundation through shows, merchandise and other fundraising events, with proceeds directed to priority medical equipment at the hospital.
Members say the group was pushed into public performances after a Halloween staff party, when playing became a way to relieve stress for hospital workers during difficult periods. Dr. David Antle provides back-up vocals and plays guitar and harmonica, and supporters including physiotherapist Sheila Macmurdo and Dr. Helga Reisch, Dr. MacNeill’s wife, helped turn the music into a fundraiser by creating merchandise and promoting the events.
The show will be held at the Scott MacAulay Performing Arts Centre, located at the College of Piping at 619 Water Street East in Summerside, which seats 294. The Prince County Hospital Foundation has drawn strong community backing in recent years, including a record Grassroots and Cowboy Boots event that secured nearly $3.9 million in pledges in 2024, and the Flu Fighters performance offers residents a way to enjoy local talent while directly supporting care and equipment in their own community.
