The Town of View Royal, B.C., has opened a new Volunteer Community Improvement Grant Program that will give up to $500 per project to support neighbourhood-led efforts, and applications close on June 21, 2026.
The town says the program is designed to back small community projects that build connections and improve shared spaces. The policy setting out the program is Policy 6400-044, which took effect on May 19, 2026.
Individuals, neighbourhood groups, non-profit organisations and schools located in View Royal are eligible to apply. The town’s announcement lists examples of suitable projects, including neighbourhood clean-ups, environmental initiatives, emergency preparedness workshops, little free libraries, and activities aimed at youth or seniors.
Applications must be submitted through the town’s online portal at engage.viewroyal.ca/VCIGA. Applicants can upload supporting documents with their submission. For questions, the Development Services Department can be reached at 250-708-2254 or [email protected].
Successful applicants will receive up to $500 and have up to one year to finish their projects. The town requires a final report within 30 days after a project is completed to confirm outcomes and accounting.
The program launch comes as Mayor Sid Tobias leads the town council, which is operating with one vacant councillor seat after Councillor Damian Kowalewich resigned effective March 31, 2026. Council meets in person and by webcast on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 pm, with the next meeting set for June 2, 2026.
