Tecumseh town council approved $2.238 million in vehicle and equipment purchases at its May 26 meeting, with the money coming from the town’s savings set aside for replacing aging gear.
A total of $926,000 from the Lifecycle Fleet Reserve will cover general fleet vehicles, while $1,312,000 from the Lifecycle Fire Apparatus Reserve is tagged for Community Safety Services vehicles, according to highlights posted on the Town of Tecumseh website.
The spending follows a long-term replacement schedule and avoids pulling from the tax-supported operating budget.
Council also scheduled a public meeting for Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. to hear from residents about a Zoning By-law Amendment application for 12147 St. Jacques Street. The property is a 1,225 square metre parcel on the south side of St. Jacques Street, roughly 100 metres west of Lesperance Road. Residents who want to follow the discussion or share their views can find details on the Town website.
In other business, council appointed Mayor Gary McNamara as the town’s proxyholder to vote at the Essex Power Corporation 2025 shareholders’ annual meeting, with Tom Burton named as alternate. Essex Power is a utility holding company owned by Tecumseh, Amherstburg, LaSalle and Leamington that serves over 30,000 customers through its Essex Powerlines operation.
The next regular council meeting is set for June 9, 2026.
