Igloolik, Nunavut, can expect a stretch of mild and settled weather this week, according to Environment Canada. The forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud with temperatures hovering around the freezing mark, and no precipitation in sight.
On Monday afternoon, the community saw mostly cloudy skies and a temperature of -0.4°C with a wind chill near -6. Northwest winds at 30 km/h are expected through the night, dropping the low to -4°C and the wind chill to near -10. Environment Canada has not issued any weather alerts for Igloolik.
The seven-day outlook shows daytime highs gradually warming from -1°C on Tuesday to 4°C by Thursday, where they will stay through Saturday before dipping to 3°C on Sunday. Overnight lows will range from -5°C to 1°C. These temperatures are close to the seasonal normals for early June, which are a high of 0°C and a low of -5°C.
For the hamlet of about 2,000 people, this calm weather means easier travel and outdoor activities after a long Arctic winter. Igloolik is a fly-in community on an island in Foxe Basin, so residents rely on clear skies for flights and safe conditions for hunting and going out on the land.
