Garden Hill, Manitoba, is in for several more days of cool, damp weather after a mixed weekend, according to the latest Environment Canada forecast. Temperatures through Friday are expected to run a few degrees below normal, with on-and-off showers and cloudy skies dominating.
On Monday afternoon, the Island Lake Airport station recorded 9.6°C under cloudy skies, with north-northwest winds at 21 km/h. A few showers were expected to end by the afternoon, leaving mainly cloudy conditions and a daytime high near 12°C. Overnight, the thermometer dips to 7°C with a 60 percent chance of drizzle.
Tuesday will bring much the same, with mainly cloudy skies and a 30 percent chance of showers. The high should reach 13°C, with a high UV index of 6. Temperatures are running 4 to 7 degrees below the seasonal normal of 20°C, making conditions feel more like early spring than mid-June. The normal low for this time of year in the area is 9°C.
Things stay unsettled right through the week. Wednesday offers a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 16°C, but Thursday cools off again to 14°C under similar mixed skies. Friday climbs back to 16°C with a mix of sun and cloud, and Saturday brings cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of showers and a high of 17°C. Residents are advised to dress in layers and keep an eye on the radar.
The cool, showery pattern extends across much of the Island Lake region, including Oxford House and Gods Lake. Environment Canada has not issued any weather alerts for the area, so while conditions are damp and cool, no severe weather is expected. A general warm-up toward seasonal normals is possible by Sunday, when the forecast calls for a mix of sun and cloud and a high near 20°C.
