The County of Grande Prairie is holding its 14th annual open house events this week, giving people a chance to review municipal plans, ask questions, and share feedback on local services. The three events run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at separate locations across the County.
The first open house happened Monday, June 15 at Hinton Trail Hall in Elmworth. A second event follows Wednesday, June 17 at Clarkson Hall in Evergreen Park. The series wraps up Thursday, June 18 at Webster Hall in Sexsmith. Each gathering includes a free barbecue meal while supplies last, bouncy castles for kids, prizes, and displays from every County department.
Reeve Amanda McDonald, who was elected in October 2025, said the open houses are a great way for residents to connect with Council and staff. “The County’s annual open houses are a great opportunity for residents to engage with Council and staff to learn more about the programs and services we provide,” she said. This is the first year McDonald has led the events as Reeve, after last year’s series was postponed because of the Kiskatinaw River Wildfire and consolidated into a single August gathering.
Attendees will get updates on major planning work completed this spring. Council adopted a new Municipal Development Plan on April 20, designed to guide growth over the next 50 years. The plan was shaped by three years of public input that included 27 in-person sessions. Council also approved a $208.5 million budget for 2026 that puts about 68.5 per cent of capital spending into road and bridge projects. The County’s population has grown 26 per cent since 2012, reaching 26,701 residents, and Clairmont is now Alberta’s third-largest hamlet with 6,123 people.
