The annual Brain Tumour Walk returns to Brandon on June 20, 2026, giving residents a chance to raise funds for brain tumour research while enjoying a community barbecue at the East End Community Centre.
Registration opens at 10 a.m. at 405 Park Street, followed by opening remarks and survivor photos at 11 a.m. The walk itself gets underway at 11:30 a.m., with closing remarks at 1:30 p.m. and the event wrapping up by 2 p.m.
The Brandon event is part of a nationwide effort by the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, with official walks being held in 12 cities this year along with community‑led walks like Brandon’s. Every day, 27 Canadians are diagnosed with a brain tumour, including eight who learn they have brain cancer.
Brandon’s involvement in the cause grew from a local tragedy. In 2024, Onix Collette organized the Onix Angel Brain Tumour Walk at the Riverbank Discovery Centre in memory of their mother, Brandi Massina, who died in December 2023 after living 17 years with a benign tumour on her brain stem. That first walk raised more than $3,000.
The Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada shifted to a community‑led model for the walks due to rising costs, leaving local organizers to plan events like the one at the East End Community Centre. The national charity, founded in 1982, has directed more than $10 million into brain tumour research.
For Brandon residents, the walk is a chance to support a meaningful cause close to home. Details are listed on the Brandon Tourism events calendar.
