The Town of Innisfail has released a full calendar of summer activities for youth this July, giving families in the central Alberta community a clearer picture of supervised programming during the school break. The Recreation and Culture department is running a broad slate of activities for ages 10 to 17 throughout July and into August, along with a free vacation bible school for younger children offered by a local church.
Arts and Crafts kicks off the town-run activities on July 7, followed by Field Games on July 14 and a Nerf Fight on July 15 at the Innisfail Twin Arena. Additional July events include Picnic & Nature Walk (July 21) and Minute to Win It Games (July 28), with programming continuing through August. Registration is needed for most activities, and details are on the town website.
A day trip to Boardwalk Entertainment Centre in Red Deer is set for July 9. Youth will leave from the Innisfail Aquatic Centre at 10:30 a.m. and return by 1:30 p.m. The $40 fee covers bus travel and access to laser tag and arcade games. Boardwalk opened in June 2024 in the former Peavey Mart building on Gaetz Avenue, adding a newer option for a local outing.
For children entering kindergarten through Grade 6, the Innisfail Alliance Church is hosting its Rainforest Falls Vacation Bible School from July 13 to 17. The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to noon each day, and families can sign up at no cost. The church has operated out of the Eastgate Mall since 2001.
Having a full set of activities listed early in the summer is a meaningful shift in Innisfail, a town of roughly 8,000 where structured youth offerings have often been limited. The Recreation and Culture department, led by Director of Community Services Meghan Jenkins, continues adding programs as it works on a new master plan for recreation and open spaces.
