Two fresh events are hitting Amherstburg’s summer schedule in late June, giving residents a chance to explore private gardens or get their kids rolling safely. The Amherstburg Garden Tour runs Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, while a free Bike Rodeo and Bike Safety Event follows on Sunday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The overlapping weekend programming lands as the town wraps up a month already packed with Ribfest and cultural celebrations.
The Amherstburg Fort Malden Horticultural Society organizes the Garden Tour, a self-guided peek into private gardens around town. Participants start at Toddy Jones Park, 50 North St, where they pick up a Tour Access Pass containing garden addresses. The tour runs 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. both days. Tickets cost $15 each, payable only by cash or e-transfer, with proceeds supporting community greening projects.
The next day, Families First hosts the Bike Rodeo from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 585 Sandwich St S, in partnership with the Amherstburg Police. Children and families can bring their bikes and tackle skills stations, an obstacle course, and a guided ride while learning road safety basics. A free BBQ, face painting, and a sports game inflatable round out the morning.
Both events land in a busy stretch for Amherstburg. Ribfest runs June 19 to 21, Carrousel of the Nations highlighted Brazil from June 12 to 14, and Open Air Weekends continue through September 6.
The horticultural society, a nonprofit dating back to 1906, holds the Garden Tour annually, while the Bike Rodeo has become a regular fixture through the Families First partnership with the Amherstburg Police. Details on the Garden Tour are available through the society, and the bike event information is posted on the Families First website.
