The Pembroke Regional Hospital Foundation is $250,000 closer to its $10 million fundraising goal thanks to a joint donation from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) and the consortium that operates CNL, Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada (NLPC). The gift, announced June 17, 2026, is earmarked for a new CT scanner that will perform more than 15,000 scans each year.
The donation will be paid out over five years and directly supports the hospital’s Together, We Care campaign, the largest equipment fundraiser in the foundation’s history. With this contribution, the campaign has now raised $7.1 million of its $10 million target since launching its quiet phase in April 2024.
Dennis Carr, President and CEO of CNL, said the company sees the gift as a long-term commitment.
“We hope our investment sends a clear message that CNL is committed to supporting our community, not only today, but well into the future,” Carr said. CNL is one of the area’s largest employers.
The new CT scanner will replace aging diagnostic equipment and is expected to reduce wait times while allowing more patients to receive advanced imaging without travelling outside the region. Sabine Mersmann, President and CEO of Pembroke Regional Hospital, noted that modern equipment also helps attract and retain skilled medical staff.
The Together, We Care campaign focuses on three main areas: installing a new electronic health records system, replacing the CT scanner, and funding other urgent equipment needs. Since the campaign began, donor dollars have already paid for 84 new and replacement items, including a MOLLI Surgical System for breast cancer procedures and a HUGS Infant Protection System.
The campaign entered its public phase on June 4, 2026. Foundation Executive Director Roger Martin praised the partnership, saying the donation “provides significant momentum” toward the final $10 million goal.
