Lethbridge residents can now circle July 1 on their calendars as the City of Lethbridge and Excite Lethbridge have announced details for Canada Day 2026, celebrating the country’s 159th birthday with a day full of free events across three locations. The announcement came June 17, giving families their first confirmed look at what is shaping up to be the biggest single-day public event on the city’s community calendar.
The dual-venue format that launched last year returns, with Henderson Lake Park hosting the Kids Zone starting at noon and the crowd-favourite fireworks at 11 p.m., weather permitting. Across the street, Excite Lethbridge will feature the main stage and Food Truck Alley, plus indoor activities like a community band, concessions and a bouncy castle for kids beginning at 11 a.m. for those needing an earlier break from the heat.
Downtown, Galt Gardens will once again host the Party in the Park starting at 9 a.m., complete with breakfast sandwiches supporting the Interfaith Food Bank, a car show put on by the Le Barons Car Club, and tipi and Indigenous education activities. Transit service is free all day and night, making it easier to get around, though drivers should note that Parkside Drive South will close starting at 6 a.m. on July 1, with Exhibition Way closing at 6 a.m. on June 30 (no parking along Exhibition Way South begins June 29 at 6 a.m.).
The expanded celebration builds on a partnership that began in July 2025 after the 2024 Canada Day event drew an estimated 12,000 people to Henderson Lake Park, raising concerns about overcrowding, park damage and security. By teaming up with Excite Lethbridge, the city shifted the main stage and food trucks to the Lethbridge Trade & Convention Centre grounds while keeping the popular Kids Zone and fireworks at the lake. Mayor Blaine Hyggen, now in his second term, championed the collaboration as a way to give families more room to enjoy the holiday while protecting the park’s natural beauty.
