Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador, is getting ready for a big night on August 1, 2026, as the annual fireworks display returns to The Klondyke for Bay Roberts Day. The show starts at 10 p.m. and caps off a full day of family fun during the Klondyke Days festival. Everyone is welcome, and it’s free to attend.
The fireworks are set off over the historic Klondyke causeway that links Bay Roberts to Coley’s Point. Built in 1897-1898, the causeway is a municipal heritage site and a key part of local history. It got its name from a store owner who compared the project to the Klondike Gold Rush because the wages helped families through hard times when the Labrador fishery failed.
The Town of Bay Roberts has made the fireworks a longtime tradition since Klondyke Days began in 1996. The festival celebrates the building of the causeway and the close bond between the two communities. Bay Roberts Day, the town’s civic holiday, always wraps up the festival, and the fireworks have become a crowd favorite. Past shows have lasted more than 20 minutes.
This year’s celebration includes a concert by The Swinging Belles at the Bay Arena. The St. John’s-based swing band for kids has won the Juno Award for Children’s Album of the Year twice, in 2016 and 2024. They are known for energetic live shows that get families dancing. The concert is part of the daytime activities ahead of the evening fireworks.
Residents and visitors can also enjoy other Klondyke Days events throughout the week, but the August 1 finale at The Klondyke is the main draw. No tickets are needed for the fireworks, so grab a spot near the causeway and look up a little before 10 p.m.
