Sarnia police are turning to the public for help identifying a person caught on camera breaking into the Sarnia Farmer’s Market on Proctor Street in the early hours of June 22. Investigators say one cash drawer was damaged and $100 was missing from another.
According to the Sarnia Police Service, the break-in happened around 3:47 a.m. and was recorded on a security camera inside the building at 110 Proctor Street. Officers were called later that day and have since released the footage on their YouTube page. “The video is available on our YouTube page,” police said in a statement, hoping someone will recognize the suspect.
This is the second time this year that the market has been targeted. Less than three months earlier, on March 29, two suspects were involved in a similar early morning break-in. The recurring incidents have rattled vendors and shoppers who have supported the market for decades.
The Sarnia Farmer’s Market has been a local fixture since 1953, with more than 20 vendors selling fresh produce, baked goods, and other products. It is one of the oldest continuously run farmers markets in Ontario.
Police are asking anyone who knows the person in the video to call them at 519-344-8861. Tips can also be left anonymously with Sarnia Lambton Crime Stoppers at 519-332-TIPS (8477) or online at www.p3tips.com.
