Dawson Creek kids and teens can dive into a summer of books when the Dawson Creek Municipal Library launches its annual Summer Reading Club on July 2. This year’s seven-week program adds a first-ever Teen Summer Reading Challenge for ages 13 to 18, running alongside the popular children’s club for newborns to 14-year-olds.
Registration at the library is in person only, and families can sign up anytime during the summer with no limit on how many can join. Children receive a reading journal to track their progress, while teens pick up a challenge tracker starting July 1. Both programs offer weekly crafts, activities, and prizes as participants reach their goals.
The club follows the “Under the Sea” theme of the province-wide BC Summer Reading Club, which launched June 26. The provincial program, sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, reaches more than 173,000 kids across the province. This year’s artwork comes from BC artist Hayley Lowe.
