Haines Junction will see variable conditions to start the week before a pleasant Canada Day, according to Environment Canada. Residents planning outdoor celebrations or trips into Kluane National Park and Reserve can look forward to a mix of sun and cloud on Wednesday, though rain is expected to return later in the week.
As of early Monday afternoon, mainly cloudy skies sat over the community with a temperature of 14°C and light east-southeast winds. A 40 percent chance of showers is in the forecast for Tuesday, with the high reaching just 15°C.
Canada Day will bring a welcome break, with a high of 17°C under a mix of sun and cloud. But those conditions won’t last, as periods of rain are expected to move in on Thursday, dropping the high to a cool 13°C. The changeable pattern is set to continue through Friday and into the weekend.
While the Canada Day high is a bit below the seasonal normal of 20°C, the nearly 19 hours of daily daylight still leave plenty of time to get outside. For anyone heading into the backcountry, the Canada Strong Pass is offering 25 percent off camping and overnight stays in Kluane National Park and Reserve through September 7.
