Haines Junction, Yukon is in for a wet start to the week, with Environment Canada forecasting rain Monday night and showers returning Thursday night.
The national weather service says 5 to 10 millimetres of rain will fall overnight on Monday, with a low near 9 degrees Celsius. Rain should end by Tuesday morning, but a mix of sun and cloud and a 60 percent chance of showers will stick around for the rest of the day. Tuesday’s high is expected to reach 17 degrees.
Conditions are forecast to stay unsettled through the workweek, with more clouds and a chance of showers on Thursday night. Daytime highs will remain on the cool side, mostly between 14 and 19 degrees until Friday, which is a bit below the normal July high of 20 degrees.
The dreary pattern will break just in time for the weekend. Environment Canada expects clearing to begin on Wednesday, with temperatures climbing to 22 degrees on Friday and reaching 24 degrees under a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday.
Residents can also look forward to a moderate UV index early in the week, with readings of 5 on Monday and 4 on Tuesday, before sunnier conditions arrive. No weather alerts are currently in effect for the area.
