A Men’s Gathering is set for July 14 and 15 at Sandy Bar in St. Theresa Point First Nation, bringing together community members for two days of food, races, fishing, talks, games, and prizes. The event, organized by the St. Theresa Point Community Wellness and Prevention program, aims to create a space for men to connect and celebrate together.
The gathering reflects a broader focus on wellness in the fly-in Oji-Cree community, which has prioritized regaining traditional values and teachings. It follows similar events held in other Manitoba First Nations, such as the Fisher River Cree Nation Men’s Gathering in 2024.
Organizers are encouraging attendance and note that additional activities will be announced soon. The event is targeted at men in the community and will take place at Sandy Bar, along the shores of Island Lake.
St. Theresa Point, located about 650 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, is home to roughly 4,000 people and is part of the Island Lake Tribal Council. The community recently elected a new chief, Elvin Flett, in March 2026.
