The 2026 Grande Prairie Triathlon is set for Sunday, July 12 at the Eastlink Centre in Grande Prairie, Alberta, but the chance to sign up has passed. Registration for the annual event closed July 5, one week before race day.
This marks the second year under the Grande Prairie Triathlon name after nearly a decade as the Eastlink Centre Triathlon. The race welcomed athletes aged 3 to 99 and older, offering categories like Kids of Steel, Try-a-Tri, Sprint, and Team Sprint. All participants needed a $20 adult or $15 team member day pass from Triathlon Alberta unless they held an annual membership.
Mayor Jackie Clayton called the triathlon one of the city’s key sport tourism events. “The Grande Prairie Triathlon is about much more than crossing the finish line,” Clayton said. “It brings people together, supports healthy lifestyles and showcases Grande Prairie as a welcoming destination for recreation and sport.”
The course begins with pool swimming at the Eastlink Centre, followed by a bike leg on 68 Avenue—closed from Poplar Drive to Knowledge Way—and a run through nearby trails. Over 300 people took part in 2024, and similar turnout is expected this weekend.
Residents should expect road closures and limited Eastlink Centre access Sunday morning as the event gets underway.
