Yorkton’s $16.8-million York Road makeover is heading into its last stages after crews wrapped up Phase 5, the city says. The work, a partnership with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure, stretches from Gladstone Avenue to Highway 9.
The project, one of the city’s biggest infrastructure investments, is now moving into Phases 6 and 7. A final inspection is tentatively set for October 21, weather permitting, according to a city project page.
The rebuild includes a full road overhaul with new pavement, structure, and curbs, plus major drainage upgrades. The stormwater piece alone saw $6.8 million in federal cash through the Canada Community-Building Fund, installing 3,496 metres of storm pipe, upgraded culverts, and improved drainage.
For drivers, the work means continued closures along York Road from First Avenue North to Myrtle Avenue. A detour is in place on Second Avenue for local traffic and people trying to reach businesses. Heavy vehicles headed for Highway 16 toward Saskatoon are asked to stick to the Heavy Vehicle and Dangerous Goods Route.
