A free, one-hour solo play that tells the story of starting over in the North is coming to Haines Junction on July 25, 2026. Junction Arts & Music, also known as JAM, is presenting LUMBER, written and performed by Yukon Métis artist Colin Wolf, at the Village Bakery from noon to 1:00 p.m.
The play follows a character named Jack Bennet, who loses everything: his partner, his job, his home, and his dog. With only his truck and a chainsaw, he heads to the Yukon to build a new life harvesting timber. Along the way, he finds unexpected community and reconnects with his home and heritage.
Wolf is the executive and artistic director at Gwaandak Theatre in Whitehorse and co-founded Thumbs Up Good Work Theatre with his sister in 2013. He moved to Whitehorse from Calgary in 2019 and has been creating theatre in the territory ever since. LUMBER is directed by Nathan Howe, a theatre-maker originally from Saskatoon.
The Haines Junction show is part of a larger tour for LUMBER, which also includes stops at fringe festivals in Calgary, Edmonton, and Halifax later this summer. The production is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and the Government of Yukon through the Arts Fund.
Admission is free, and everyone in the community is welcome. JAM has been bringing arts and culture events to Haines Junction for more than 25 years, from its start as the Society for Education and Culture in 1999 to nearly 400 events and over 17,000 attendees by its 20th anniversary in 2019.
