The Sherwood Park Highland Gathering returns for its seventh year this weekend at Broadmoor Lake Park in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Mayor Rod Frank is inviting residents to the two-day Celtic festival, calling it “family fun” for everyone.
The event runs July 25 and 26, 2026, at 20 Festival Way, with activities spilling onto the Salisbury High School athletic fields. Organised by the volunteer-run Strathcona Highland Society, the gathering features piping and drumming competitions, massed band performances, Highland dance contests with 142 registered dancers, and Scottish heavy games like the caber toss.
Tickets are available through Showpass, ranging from $8.53 to $31.17, and children 12 and under get in free. Full event details can be found at sphg.ca.
The festival started in 2019 after the Edmonton Highland Games ended a 28-year run at Fort Edmonton Park. What began as a one-day event drawing about 5,000 visitors has grown into a two-day celebration that topped 10,000 attendees by 2023. It has pushed through pandemic cancellations, wildfire smoke, and heavy rain, building a reputation for resilience.
Mayor Frank, now in his third term, shared his enthusiasm on social media, urging families to take in the games. The 2026 Chieftains of the event are David and Vicki Lawrence.
