The Four Arrows Regional Health Authority posted a new term job for an addiction and harm reduction nurse on July 22, 2026. The position will bring addiction support to St. Theresa Point and other Island Lake communities in Manitoba, where a public health emergency was declared just weeks ago.
The nurse will work with the Manitoba Anisininew Mobile Addictions Network, a program called MAMAN that already operates in Garden Hill and Red Sucker Lake. According to the job posting, the role includes regular travel to St. Theresa Point to help build in-community addiction services there.
The new job comes as the Island Lake region faces a crisis. On July 9, 2026, the Anisininew Okimawin Grand Council declared a regional public health emergency for the four First Nations: Red Sucker Lake, Wasagamack, Garden Hill, and St. Theresa Point. Leaders cited toxic drug supply, rising HIV and hepatitis C rates, and homelessness as key concerns.
Addiction Services Program Manager Kirsty Muller says MAMAN is overwhelmed. The program has close to 60 people on its waitlist, and services are at capacity in Garden Hill alone. In that community, an HIV outbreak was declared in January 2025, with 11 new diagnoses since the start of that year.
The new nurse will split time between the Winnipeg MAMAN clinic at 1880 Ellice Avenue and the fly-in communities, including St. Theresa Point. The term runs to March 31, 2027, with a possible extension. Applicants need to be a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse with at least two years of experience in addictions or mental health care.
