The day will start sunny, but clouds will roll in later with a 40 percent chance of showers and possible thunderstorm activity. Temperatures are expected to reach 27°C, with Humidex values near 31 making it feel quite muggy.
As of Tuesday, no weather alerts or warnings are in effect for the area. However, the forecast comes after a month of active weather. Thunder Bay has already seen several severe thunderstorm watches this July, including on July 19, 20, and 26. The most recent event on July 26 brought hail described as the size of loonies to ping pong balls and wind gusts up to 90 km/h in parts of the region.
“Each year lightning kills two to three Canadians and injures close to 180 others,” according to Environment Canada. With thunderstorm risk returning, officials remind everyone to take shelter immediately if threatening weather approaches.
The unsettled pattern is expected to linger through the rest of the week. Thursday and Friday both carry a chance of showers at 40 and 30 percent respectively, with highs staying warm between 27°C and 28°C. Tuesday offered a brief sunny break with a high of 25°C and a very high UV index of 8.
