A new bus route is making it easier for Selkirk residents to reach the pool and park this summer, with the City of Selkirk launching a Summer Express pilot on July 27, 2026. The route runs directly between Selkirk Crossing and Selkirk Park, including a stop at Selkirk Park Pool, with trips taking 20 minutes or less.
The service operates Monday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., continuing through August 31. Buses arrive about every 40 minutes, giving riders a quick way to enjoy the 100-acre green space along the Red River that features an outdoor pool, splash pad, skate park, dog park, and walking trails. Fares are $2 per ride, the same price the Selkirk Transit Authority has charged since its first bus rolled out in 2011.
City officials describe the Summer Express as a pilot designed to improve access to recreation areas. The route begins at Selkirk Crossing, the shopping centre at 1018 Manitoba Avenue, offering a convenient starting point for residents who can also transfer to other Selkirk Transit routes. According to the city, this is the first seasonal service of its kind, building on steady transit growth that has seen annual ridership climb from 13,502 in 2011 to 35,642 in 2024.
The pilot follows other recent improvements, including extended weekday evening hours added in May 2025 and a free youth transit program for students aged 12 to 21 that began on June 15, 2026. That province-supported initiative aims to help more than 1,700 young people in the Tri-S region of Selkirk, St. Andrews, and St. Clements get to school, work, and recreation.
