Haines Junction, Yukon is in for some unusually warm and sunny weather this week before a rainy pattern moves in for the weekend, according to Environment Canada.
Wednesday will see mainly sunny skies and a high of 24°C. Thursday will start sunny before clouds and a slight chance of showers arrive late in the afternoon, with a high of 24°C according to Environment Canada, though The Weather Network forecasts a high of 25°C. That is about 5 to 6 degrees above the normal August high of 19°C for the area.
Residents can expect a brief chance of showers late Thursday afternoon, but the real change comes Friday night. Environment Canada is calling for periods of rain on Saturday, August 8, with a high of only 18°C. The Weather Network predicts an 80 percent chance of rain and about 10 millimetres of precipitation on Saturday, with more showers possible on Sunday.
This weekend system could drop 15 to 20 millimetres of rain in total, which is a significant portion of the 38 millimetres Haines Junction typically gets for all of August. The rain is expected to be the heaviest of the current forecast period.
For those with outdoor plans, the best bet is to take advantage of the warm and dry weather through Thursday before the wetter and cooler conditions arrive for the weekend.
