Aurora, Ontario, is set for several days of hot and sunny weather this week, with Environment Canada calling for temperatures to climb well above seasonal norms before a shift to wetter conditions on Thursday.
Wednesday, August 5, is expected to be the warmest and sunniest day of the week. The forecast calls for a high of 29°C, but with humidity it will feel more like 34. A very high UV index of 9 means residents should limit time in the sun between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and use sunscreen and protective clothing if outdoors.
These conditions are about four degrees hotter than what Aurora typically sees in early August, when highs average 25°C and lows drop to 15°C. Despite the heat, no weather alerts are in effect, because the temperature and humidex remain below Ontario’s official heat warning threshold. For southern Ontario, Environment Canada only issues a heat warning when daytime highs reach at least 31°C and overnight lows stay at or above 20°C for two straight days, or the humidex hits 40 for two or more days.
The hot and sunny stretch won’t last all week. Starting Thursday, August 6, clouds will roll in and there is a 40% chance of afternoon showers, along with a risk of thunderstorms. The chance of rain increases to 60% by Saturday, August 8.
