The Tecumseh Terry Fox Run is putting out a call for volunteers to help with its annual event on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Green Acres Optimist Park in Tecumseh, Ontario. Organizers are looking for community members to pitch in on Run Day and with pre-event fundraisers. This year marks the 46th anniversary of the Terry Fox Run, which is entirely volunteer-led.
Jan Wright, chair of the Terry Fox Run committee, has led the local effort for decades. Since 1997, the Tecumseh event has raised about $1.4 million for cancer research. In 2025 alone, nearly $91,000 was collected from 961 participants across 66 teams.
“We are looking for volunteers to help on Run Day Event on Sunday, September 20, 2026 as well as some pre-event fundraisers,” the committee stated on a Workforce WindsorEssex posting. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Roles include setup and teardown, registering participants, running activities, and selling merchandise. Volunteers need to be available on Run Day and for training beforehand.
The event starts at 9 a.m. at Green Acres Optimist Park on St. Gregory’s Road. People of all ages can walk, run, or bike along 2-kilometre and 5-kilometre routes. Residents interested in volunteering can fill out a registration form and will be contacted by the Volunteer Co-ordinator.
