A community donation drive is now underway at The Social Pup in Aurora, Ontario, to help stock the Town of Aurora’s Pet Food Bank for residents in need. From August 10 to 22, 2026, the local dog daycare, hotel, and spa is collecting new pet food and supplies to support families in Aurora, Georgina, and East Gwillimbury who may struggle to afford food for their pets.
The The Social Pup is asking for specific donations including cat food, dog treats, and small breed dog food. All items collected will go directly to the Aurora Pet Food Bank, a municipal program that provides temporary pet food assistance to pet owners experiencing financial hardship.
According to the Town of Aurora, the Pet Food Bank offers one week to one month’s worth of supplies depending on availability. The service helps prevent pet owners from having to surrender their animals because they can’t afford to feed them. The program serves residents of Aurora, Georgina, and East Gwillimbury.
The pet food bank is run by the Town of Aurora’s Animal Services department as part of a shared services partnership between the three municipalities that began January 1, 2025. The partnership also provides animal control and pet licensing for the region.
Food insecurity remains a serious issue across Canada, with about 24% of Canadians living in food-insecure households in 2025. Pet food banks have become an increasingly common way to help families keep their pets during tough financial times. Donations can be dropped off at The Social Pup located at 2 Scanlon Court, Unit 8 in Aurora during the drive.
