The City of Port Colborne is hiring paid election workers to help run advance voting and Election Day for the municipal and school board election on October 26, 2026. Applications close on August 31, 2026, and those interested can apply online at portcolborne.ca/votes or email [email protected] for details.
Available positions include deputy returning officers, poll clerks, tabulator operators, revision clerks and greeters. To be eligible, applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada and at least 18 years old by voting day. Candidates or registered third party advertisers, and their family members, are not eligible to work the election.
Each position receives a daily stipend and mandatory paid training prior to Election Day. Paper applications can also be picked up and submitted in person at Port Colborne City Hall, 66 Charlotte Street, to the attention of the Election Coordinator.
Advance voting opportunities will run October 2-3 and October 14, with vote-by-mail applications available starting September 1, 2026. The city has moved to a three-ward structure for this election, reducing council from eight to six councillors plus the mayor. Two mayoral candidates have registered: incumbent Bill Steele and former councillor Bea Kenny.
Port Colborne is one of many Ontario municipalities recruiting election workers for the 2026 province-wide municipal elections, which are held every four years under the Municipal Elections Act.
