Residents of Tecumseh who want to run in the October municipal and school board election have until 2:00 PM on August 21, 2026 to file nomination papers. The deadline is firm, and forms will only be accepted in person at Tecumseh Town Hall between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM that day.
The Town of Tecumseh is seeking candidates for mayor, deputy mayor, five ward councillor positions, and four school board trustee spots. A nomination fee of $100 is required for councillor or trustee candidates and $200 for those running for mayor or deputy mayor. The fee is refundable once the required financial statement is filed.
This year, voters will cast ballots online or by phone from September 28 to October 26. The new council will be sworn in on November 17 at the Ciociaro Club on North Talbot Road.
In the 2022 election, Mayor Gary McNamara and Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti were both acclaimed, meaning no one ran against them. That election saw a turnout of just 28.72 per cent. McNamara has led the town since 2003, after first being elected to council in 1991.
