Aurora residents now have a full list of candidates to consider for the upcoming municipal election on Monday, October 26, 2026. The Town of Aurora has published official candidate information, including contact details and campaign websites, so voters can learn about who is running before they cast a ballot.
There are three people running for mayor: current mayor Tom Mrakas, who was first elected in 2018, Ward 5 councillor John Gallo, and first-time candidate Shawn Deane. The winner will lead Aurora for the next four years.
Several wards will have new faces on council. In Ward 1, long-time councillor Ron Weese is not running again, leaving Lauren Hanna and Rocco Morsillo competing for the seat. Ward 3 also has no incumbent, after Wendy Gaertner confirmed she will not seek re-election. Nikki Alber, who is endorsed by Gaertner, Alexandra Bonham, and Robert James Fraser are all running there.
In Ward 5, the seat is open because John Gallo is running for mayor instead. Four people are looking to fill that role: Charity Dela Cruz-Toupin, Jessie Fraser, Milton Hart, and Harbinder (Binda) Thandi. Ward 2 has Angela Daust, Marco Di Girolamo, Phiona Durrant, and Brynn Lansdown running. There are also incumbent councillors seeking re-election: Michael Thompson in Ward 4 and Harold Kim in Ward 6.
Anyone who wants to check if they are on the voters list or update their information can do so until October 1, 2026. Internet voting will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 16 and close at 12 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. In-person advanced polls will run from October 17 to 21 at the Aurora Seniors’ Centre.
