Banff residents looking to gear up for ski season can buy and sell equipment at the annual Ski and Sports Swap, running October 14-18, 2026 at the Banff Train Station. The five-day community consignment event is a fundraiser for the Banff Alpine Racers and Bow Valley Quikies, with 25 percent of each sale supporting the non-profit ski club.
The swap operates on a consignment model. Sellers receive 75 percent of their item’s ticket price, while the remaining 25 percent goes to the club to support youth ski programs. The event gives families and outdoor enthusiasts an affordable way to prepare for winter.
The Banff Quikies Ski Club was founded in 1978 by Mike and Bonnie Wiegele to offer basic ski instruction for children. The Banff Alpine Racers later formed to give graduates a pathway to competitive racing. Today the clubs serve roughly 300 athletes, making them among the largest ski clubs in Alberta.
The Banff Train Station, a historic Canadian Pacific Railway building constructed in 1910, will host the swap at 327 Railway Avenue. The event is one of several on the clubs’ fall calendar, which also includes the Winterstart 5 Miler road race on November 7, 2026.
Proceeds help sustain programs that have produced Olympic and World Cup athletes, including Olympic bronze medalist Jan Hudec and current national team members Erik Read and Jeffrey Read. More information about consigning items and swap hours is available on the Ski and Sports Swap page.
