The Downtown Street Party returns to Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday, August 20, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., after July’s event was cancelled due to poor air quality from wildfire smoke. This month’s party will cover two additional downtown blocks, stretching from Brock Street to Dennis Street, with more entertainment than originally planned.
Three live music stages will feature local performers, including the Village Media Stage beneath the canopy at Village Media Headquarters on the corner of Bruce Street, the EDM & DJ Stage near the King Street Alley, and the March Street Stage presented by OLG.
At the Downtown Plaza, families can enjoy free activities all evening, including the Entomica Insectarium, The Klubs Obstacle Course, inflatables, mini putt, and a foam party. A 30-foot rock climbing wall will be available at GFL Memorial Gardens. Nicole Does Trivia starts at 7:00 p.m., followed by a free outdoor screening of Jaws at 9:30 p.m., hosted by the Reel Film Forum.
Josh Ingram, Supervisor of the Downtown Plaza, said the event is more than just an evening of entertainment. “It’s a celebration of the businesses, artists, organizations, volunteers, and community partners that make downtown Sault Ste. Marie such a vibrant place to gather,” he said. “With an expanded event and something for everyone to enjoy, we look forward to welcoming residents and visitors for another memorable summer evening downtown.”
The August event is part of a four-event summer series that transforms different sections of Queen Street each month.
